How to Care for Your Vinyl Records

A complete guide to caring for your vinyl records — from proper storage and handling to cleaning methods and protecting your collection in Dubai’s climate.

How to Care for Your Vinyl Records

A well-cared-for vinyl record can sound incredible for decades. A neglected one deteriorates with every play. The difference comes down to a few simple habits — how you store, handle, and clean your records.

Whether you are building your first collection or maintaining a shelf of favourites, this guide covers everything you need to keep your vinyl in top shape.

Store Records Vertically

Always store your records upright, like books on a shelf. Never stack them flat. Horizontal stacking puts pressure on the bottom records, leading to warps that are almost impossible to reverse.

Use a sturdy shelf or crate that holds records snugly without squeezing them. Too much pressure between records can cause ring wear on the outer sleeves.

In the Gulf, direct sunlight and summer temperatures above 45°C can warp vinyl in minutes. Never leave records in a car or near windows. Keep your collection in a cool, dry room away from direct light.
